We hate to say this, but a 4th of July celebration is the one time you might not want to bring your pet! Keep your furry friend safe and stress-free this Fourth of July with these essential tips.
Keep Them Indoors: Fireworks can startle our pets, and the Fourth has the highest rate of dogs running away. Stay with them when they’re outside, and make sure they have ID tags on.
Know Their Noise Tolerance: Just like humans, pets have different tolerances to noise. If loud noises stress them out, it’s best to keep them at home.
Prepare a Safe Space: Create a cozy, quiet spot with their favorite things, including some of their favorite toys, comfortable bedding, food, and water.
Use Pheromones & Calming Sounds: Calming music can help reduce stress, and pheromones in several forms (diffuser, collar, or spray) are available at many retailers.
Mind the BBQ: Keep pets away from hot grills and human food. Have meals for them on hand, so they can join in the food celebration.
Beat the Heat: On hot days, make sure your pet has shade and water. Remember, if you cannot hold the back of your hand on a surface for more than a few seconds, it’s too hot for your pet to walk on.
Got any tried-and-true pet tips of your own? We’d love to hear them! Share your advice, hacks, or holiday pet stories in the comments. Let’s help each other keep our furry friends happy and healthy. Wishing you and your pets a joyful, safe, and tail-wagging holiday season!
